What are dental crowns?
A dental crown, sometimes called a cap, is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. They can be made of porcelain or gold or a combination of these materials.
How do you know if you need a dental crown?
Dental crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. Our dentist will assess your mouth and determine if a crown is the most suitable procedure, or suggest an alternative.
Why else might you need a dental crown?
A dental crown could be used for a number of other reasons, for instance:
- You may have discoloured fillings and would like to improve the appearance of the tooth
- You may have had a root filling which will need a crown to protect it
- It may help hold a bridge or denture firmly in place.
How much do dental crowns cost in St Albans?
Our dental crowns vary in price, depending on the type of crown. A Porcelain bonded crown is £750, a Zircona crown costs £850 and an E-Max crown is £950. If you are having an implant placed and a crown it is a total of £2800.
